Hello everyone👋, welcome back to my blog. Today I got an assignment to sketch my favorite scene from a story that I've read on English e-Reader, so let's get started!!!
I choose a story entitled "The Canterville Ghost" and it was written by Oscar Wilde. It is the B1 level (pre-intermediate). It consists of 16 pages with a total of 4175 words. Here's the link if you want to read that book, https://english-e-reader.net/book/the-canterville-ghost-oscar-wilde
It was the story of Mr. Hiram B. Otis a rich American. But he has to move to England, so he bought a house in the countryside, the owner sold it because there was a ghost "The Centerville Ghost". When they moved to the house, they were welcomed by Mrs.Umney, the housekeeper. She led them to the library, but there was a red stain on the floor, Mr. Otis commanded Mrs. Umney to remove it, but she said it was the blood of Lady Eleanore de Canterville, who was killed by his husband, Sir Simon de Canterville. A day passed, the red stain still reappeared, so the family kept trying to remove it. One day in the middle of the night, Mr. Otis awakened because there was a disturbance from the ghost, but he remained calm. The ghost was confused, why did Mr. Otis' family wasn't afraid. Shortly, the more the ghost tried to scare, the braver Mr. Otis's family. The ghost felt upset about it, but Mr.Otis' daughter took pity on him. She helped him to sleep well by weeping some words, so he could rest peacefully. In the end, the family found the skeleton of the ghost, then they buried it.
The scene is when The Canterville Ghost tried to frighten Mr. Otis. He rubbed his chain together, so it made a terrible noise. But what happened next was Mr. Otis gave the ghost Tammany Rising Sun Oil from the United States. Mr. Otis commanded the ghost to put the oil on his chain so it wouldn't make some noise again
The reason why I choose this scene because it is entertaining. Usually, when somebody saw a ghost they would be afraid or run away but instead of running away, Mr. Otis gave the ghost a bottle of Tamanny oil. I think the scene should be scary but it became funny, how could be a ghost lubricate the chain? This scene stuck in my brain haha...
